2025 REPORT: What Patients Are Choosing and Why

Each year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) releases procedural statistics that offer a look at what is happening in plastic surgery across the United States. The 2025 ASPS Procedural Statistics Report shows continued interest in cosmetic surgery, with overall cosmetic surgical procedures increasing 7% compared with 2024.

But some of the most interesting findings go beyond which procedures patients are choosing. The report also explored why patients are considering plastic surgery. The results point toward something we see regularly at Bloom Plastic Surgery: patients often aren’t trying to look like someone else. They want to feel more like themselves.

According to the 2025 report, the Top 5 cosmetic surgery procedures were liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, breast lift and eyelid surgery. Dr. Jacob Bloom performs all five, giving patients options for addressing changes to the face and body through an individualized surgical plan.

1. Liposuction

For the fifth consecutive year, liposuction was the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the United States, with 317,196 procedures performed in 2025.

Liposuction is designed to remove localized pockets of stubborn fat and improve body contour in areas that may not respond as desired to diet and exercise. Depending on the patient’s goals, it may be performed on its own or incorporated into a broader body contouring procedure.

At Bloom Plastic Surgery, liposuction is approached as a contouring procedure rather than simply a way to remove fat. The goal is to consider proportion, balance and how the treated area relates to the patient’s overall figure.

2. Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation ranked second among cosmetic surgical procedures in 2025. Breast augmentation and implant revision procedures totaled 304,234, an 11% increase from 2024.

One particularly interesting trend is the movement toward more proportional breast augmentation results. The ASPS report notes that patients are increasingly choosing moderate implants that complement their body type rather than simply pursuing greater size.

That shift mirrors an important part of Dr. Bloom’s approach to breast augmentation: choosing an implant and surgical plan based on the patient’s anatomy, proportions and individual aesthetic goals. There is no single “ideal” breast size or shape. The right result should make sense for the individual patient.

3. Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

With 173,251 procedures performed in 2025, tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, ranked as the third most popular cosmetic surgery procedure.

A tummy tuck can address concerns that exercise alone cannot, including excess abdominal skin and weakened abdominal muscles. For that reason, it is commonly considered after pregnancy or significant weight loss.

Weight loss is becoming an especially important part of the conversation. The report found that 88% of surveyed ASPS Member Surgeons received GLP-1-related consultations for tummy tucks in 2025.

For patients who have worked hard to lose a significant amount of weight, surgery may help address loose skin and changes in body contour that remain after the weight is gone.

4. Breast Lift

Breast lift surgery increased 8% in 2025, reaching 156,131 procedures and ranking fourth nationally.

A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises and reshapes breast tissue and repositions the nipple. It may be performed without changing breast size or combined with breast augmentation when additional volume is desired. Pregnancy, weight fluctuations and aging are among the common reasons patients consider the procedure.

The growth of breast lift surgery also fits into a larger trend identified throughout the ASPS report: increased interest in procedures designed to restore shape and contour following changes to the body.

For some patients, the goal is not larger breasts. It is restoring a shape, position and proportion that feels more familiar to them.

5. Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Rounding out the Top 5 is eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, with 118,978 procedures performed in 2025. It was the most popular facial surgery on the list and increased approximately 19% compared with 2024.

Blepharoplasty addresses aging around the eyes by removing or repositioning excess skin and fat. Depending on the patient’s anatomy and concerns, surgery can improve drooping upper eyelids, puffiness and under-eye bags to create a more rested appearance.

The word rested is important. Many patients considering eyelid surgery aren’t looking to dramatically change their face. They simply feel that their eyes make them appear older or more tired than they feel.

Restoration, Not Reinvention

Perhaps the most meaningful finding in the entire report appears on page 21.

ASPS asked surgeons about the most common reasons their patients pursued plastic surgery in 2025. Seventy-five percent ranked restoration following life changes such as pregnancy, aging and significant weight loss as a leading motivation, making it the top response by a wide margin.

Patients increasingly want to feel like a “better restored version of themselves, not a different version.”

That’s a sentiment we recognize at Bloom Plastic Surgery.

Patients often come to Dr. Bloom after something has changed. They may have experienced pregnancy, weight loss or the natural effects of aging. Others have lived with a particular concern for years and finally feel ready to address it.

The goal isn’t necessarily transformation. Often, it is restoration: looking in the mirror and feeling that what they see better reflects how they feel.

A More Personalized Approach to Plastic Surgery

The 2025 statistics suggest that today’s plastic surgery patient may be thinking differently about aesthetic surgery than stereotypes would suggest.

Across breast surgery, body contouring and facial rejuvenation, the report repeatedly points toward proportion, restoration and individualized results. Patients aren’t simply following the latest aesthetic trend. They’re considering how a procedure fits their anatomy, their stage of life and the way they want to feel.

That philosophy is central to the consultation process at Bloom Plastic Surgery. Whether a patient is considering liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, breast lift or blepharoplasty, Dr. Bloom develops a surgical plan around the individual’s anatomy and goals, with the objective of creating results that feel balanced, natural and personal.

If you’re considering one of 2025’s most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, schedule a consultation with Dr. Jacob Bloom to discuss your goals and learn which options may be appropriate for you.
