Liposuction (Chin, Neck)

Say goodbye to stubborn fat from the chin and neck!

Selfies, video conferencing and photos can all enhance our perception of a “double chin” and other unsightly bulges in the neck region. Unfortunately the stubborn fat in this region is nearly impossible to eliminate on your own. Liposuction (liposculpture) targets this area to restore the slim neck line you have been working towards!*

Liposuction at Bloom Plastic Surgery in Chicago, IL is not a weight loss procedure. It is only appropriate for patients who are within 10-15 pounds of their goal weight and who have good skin tone. For patients who have mild to moderate skin laxity, combining FaceTite and Accutitite with liposuction can help generate results not previously possible with liposuction alone. Liposuction precisely surgically targets unwelcome and unsightly fatty tissue in the neck and chin.

How does liposuction work?

Liposuction in the chin and neck area, works by gently using vacuum pressure to remove excess fat cells in the target zones. A cannula, a thin, hollow tube, is inserted under the skin through a small incision. The fat cells are inundated with tumescent fluid which makes them expand and stiffen, enabling them to be suctioned out of the body. The fluid also helps reduce discomfort by introducing local anesthetic while minimizing bleeding and bruising.

Once the fat cells are removed from the body, they cannot grow back. However, weight gain after liposuction is still possible because remaining cells continue to grow and expand. It is critical to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regime and avoid weight gain to maintain long-term results.

Required recovery after liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most powerful body contouring options available today, but it is still a surgical procedure and involves the potential for risk and complications. The liposuction of the chin and neck usually lasts about 1 hour, and can be performed as an outpatient procedure under, local, IV sedation or general anesthesia. Safety and your comfort are of the utmost importance when deciding where the procedure is performed and can be determined during the consultation process. During the procedure, Dr. Bloom will first numb the area using local anesthetic to ensure patient comfort. Following this Dr. Bloom will remove unwanted and melted fat with standard liposuction. After the procedure, treated areas will be dressed with a compression garment to prevent post-op fluid collection and swelling. The most common side effects after a liposuction procedure are moderate discomfort, bruising and some swelling. In addition to a compression garment and activity restrictions, Dr. Bloom will prescribe pain medication to help alleviate discomfort. Most patients find they need about a week of downtime before returning to light activities taking care to avoid activities that increase heart rate or blood pressure which can aggravate swelling. All patients should avoid strenuous activity for at least four to six weeks to allow all swelling to subside and ensure complete healing.
