Explain Like I’m Five: Laser Treatments

Sciton Laser Treatments, Explained Simply

BBL. MOXI. HALO. HALO TRIBRID. ProFractional. Laser peels.

If you’re thinking, “I have no idea what any of that means,” you’re in the right place.

Laser and light treatments can do some pretty impressive things for your skin, from improving brown spots and redness to smoothing texture, pores and fine lines. The confusing part is figuring out which treatment does what.

So, we’re making it simple.

At Bloom Plastic Surgery, we offer several Sciton laser and light-based treatments because there isn’t one treatment that’s right for every person or every skin concern. Some are gentle treatments with little downtime. Others go deeper to address more significant sun damage, texture, wrinkles or scarring.

And here’s the most important thing to know: You don’t need to figure out which one you need.

That’s what we’re here for. We’ll evaluate your skin, talk about what you’d like to improve, discuss how much downtime works for you and recommend the treatment that makes the most sense.

But if you’d like to understand the options before you come in, here’s the simple version.

The Cheat Sheet: Which Sciton Treatment Does What?

Our comparison chart provides a quick look at how our Sciton treatment options differ, including what they can address, their relative intensity, and the amount of downtime you can expect.

Comparison of Sciton BBL, MOXI, HALO, HALO TRIBRID, NanoPeel, MicroPeel, ProFractional and TRL laser skin treatments.

Not sure which column you should be looking at? That’s completely normal. This chart is designed to help you understand your options, not diagnose your skin or choose your own treatment. That’s our job.

What Is BBL?

BBL (BroadBand Light) is a light-based treatment rather than a traditional resurfacing laser. It is especially useful when the primary concern is brown spots, sun damage, redness, or uneven pigmentation.

Because there is little to no downtime for many patients, BBL can also be a good option for people who want to brighten and maintain their skin without committing to a more intensive resurfacing treatment.

What Is MOXI?

MOXI is a gentle fractional laser often chosen by patients who are beginning to notice early sun damage, uneven tone, or changes in their skin’s texture.

Think of MOXI as more of a refresh than a dramatic resurfacing treatment. It can help improve tone and texture while fitting into a busy schedule, with relatively little downtime.

It can also be a good option for patients interested in maintaining healthy-looking skin before more significant signs of aging appear.

What Is HALO?

HALO is a hybrid fractional laser, meaning it uses two different wavelengths to address concerns at different levels of the skin during the same treatment.

That makes HALO a versatile option for patients who want to address several concerns at once, including sun damage, uneven pigmentation, enlarged pores, rough texture, fine lines, and signs of aging.

HALO generally involves more downtime than MOXI or BBL, but it can also provide a more significant level of correction.

What Is HALO TRIBRID?

HALO TRIBRID takes the idea behind HALO a step further by bringing three wavelengths together in one treatment.

In simple terms, that allows us to work at multiple levels of the skin during the same appointment, giving our providers more flexibility to address several concerns at once.

For patients with a combination of sun damage, pigmentation, visible pores, uneven texture, and fine lines, HALO TRIBRID can provide a highly customized treatment.

It is one of our more comprehensive options and may be appropriate for someone looking for more correction and willing to plan for several days of downtime.

What Are NanoPeel and MicroLaserPeel?

NanoLaserPeel and MicroLaserPeel are resurfacing treatments designed to remove damaged outer layers of skin so fresher, smoother-looking skin can emerge.

The difference largely comes down to treatment depth and intensity.

NanoLaserPeel provides a lighter resurfacing treatment and can be useful when the goal is a relatively quick refresh. MicroLaserPeel goes deeper and may be recommended when more correction is needed for rough texture, fine lines, uneven tone, or surface imperfections.

What Is ProFractional?

ProFractional is a deeper fractional resurfacing treatment. Instead of treating the entire surface of the skin, the laser creates microscopic treatment channels while leaving surrounding areas intact.

This approach can be particularly helpful for patients concerned with acne scars, deeper texture, wrinkles, and more noticeable skin irregularities.

Because ProFractional is a more intensive treatment, patients should expect more downtime than they would with BBL or MOXI.

What Is TRL Laser Resurfacing?

TRL (Tunable Resurfacing Laser) is at the more intensive end of our resurfacing options. It allows the provider to precisely control the depth of treatment and may be recommended when the goal is more dramatic correction of deep wrinkles, significant texture changes, or more advanced sun damage.

With greater correction comes greater recovery time. TRL isn’t the treatment everyone needs, but for the right patient it gives us an option when lighter treatments simply aren’t enough.

How Do I Know Which Laser Treatment I Need?

This may be the most important question, and our answer is simple:

You don’t need to know before you come in.

Two people may both say they want to treat “sun damage” but have very different skin when we examine them. One might benefit most from BBL. Another may need the resurfacing benefits of HALO. Someone with pigmentation, texture, and fine lines may be better suited for HALO TRIBRID.

We also consider factors beyond what you want to improve, including your skin type, treatment history, lifestyle, tolerance for downtime, and how quickly you hope to see results.

Having multiple technologies available means we don’t have to make every patient fit the same treatment. We can recommend the technology and treatment intensity that make sense for the individual in front of us.

Start With Your Skin, Not a Laser Name

It’s easy to see a HALO before-and-after photo or hear a friend rave about MOXI and decide that’s the treatment you need.

But the better question isn’t “Which laser should I book?”

It’s “What do I want to improve about my skin?”

Start there.

Our experienced providers can evaluate your skin, talk through your goals, and explain which Sciton treatment, or combination of treatments, we recommend and why.

Whether you’re looking for a subtle refresh or more significant skin resurfacing, we’ll help you understand your options so you can make an informed decision.
